Stage Rental Cost: How Much It Costs to Rent a Stage and What Size You Need
Short answer: a small portable stage rental from us starts at $850 a day, with setup and one set of steps included; delivery is priced by distance. Across New York, a single stage platform rents for about $45 to $165 a day and a full stage for about $350 to $1,800, depending on size, height and extras. The bigger the stage and the farther the drive, the higher the price. Below is what drives stage rental cost, how much does it cost to rent a stage for common events, and a size chart that answers “what size stage do I need?”

What Drives Stage Rental Cost
Size
Size is the biggest factor. Portable stages are built from 4 by 4 foot platforms, so a larger stage means more platforms, legs and side panels, and more crew time to build it. A 12 by 8 foot stage is a common party size. We can build any size, smaller or bigger.
Height
Our stages adjust from 21.5 to 48 inches high, and most parties use the lowest setting, so guests can see the speaker or band without a big climb. Taller stages need more steps and, often, guard rails.
Steps, rails and skirting
One set of steps is included with our stages. Extra steps, handrails and guard rails cost more. A black skirt around the sides hides the legs and looks finished in photos. Skirting is sometimes included and sometimes extra, depending on the job, so ask when you book.
Indoor or outdoor
Outdoor stages need level ground and sometimes extra leveling. Grass, slopes and long carries from the truck add time.
Distance and timing
Travel distance changes the price. Early morning setup, late night pickup or stairs with no elevator can add a fee.
What Size Stage Do I Need? Stage Size for a Band, DJ or Speech
What size stage do I need is the first question on most calls. Start with who is on the stage and what they bring. The right stage size for a band depends on the number of players and the drum kit: a drummer alone takes about 8 by 8 feet, so a 4 piece band usually needs 16 by 12 feet. A DJ needs room for the table and two speakers, and a speech needs only a podium and a little walking space.
Stage size chart
| Event | Suggested stage size |
|---|---|
| Speeches, toasts or a podium | 8 by 8 ft |
| DJ, solo singer or duo | 8 by 8 to 12 by 8 ft |
| 3 to 5 piece band | 16 by 12 ft |
| Bigger band or a dance show | 20 by 16 ft or more |
| School or community show | depends on the cast; we plan it with you |

Add Sound and Lighting
A stage without sound only works for small rooms. Our PA package with two speakers, stands, a mixer and a wireless microphone is $695, and PA Plus with two subwoofers is $1,195. Add stage lighting to make the stage stand out after dark. See the sound system rentals page for details.
Portable Stage or Mobile Stage?
- Portable stage: built from platforms, fits indoors, in backyards, gyms and halls, and can be almost any size.
- Mobile stage: a trailer that unfolds into a covered stage with a roof. Best for festivals, block parties and big outdoor concerts. See our mobile stage rental.
Stage Rental Prices: What You Pay in Practice
Stage rental prices you see online are often for the platforms only, picked up from a warehouse. When you compare quotes, ask what is in the number: delivery, setup, steps, skirting, takedown and pickup. A quote that looks cheap often adds those later. Our price starts at $850 a day for a small stage built and taken down by our crew, and we quote bigger stages from your size, height and address. That is the real answer to how much does it cost to rent a stage: the stage, plus the crew, the truck and the drive.
How to Save on a Stage Rental
- Book the size you need, not the biggest one.
- Bundle the stage with sound and lighting from one company.
- Book weekdays and off-season dates when you can.
- Give exact details up front: ground type, stairs, power and load-in times.
Questions to Ask Before You Book
- What is the total price with delivery, setup and pickup?
- Is a set of steps included? Are rails or skirting extra?
- How high is the stage, and can it be adjusted?
- How long does setup take, and when will the crew arrive?
- Is the company insured, and can it send a certificate to the venue?
Stage Rental Cost FAQ
How much does it cost to rent a stage for a party?
From $850 a day with us for a small portable stage with setup and one set of steps. Bigger stages, taller heights, rails and long drives add to the stage rental cost.
What stage size for a band do I need?
For a 3 to 5 piece band, plan 16 by 12 feet. A bigger band, a horn section or dancers need 20 by 16 feet or more. If you are between two sizes, take the bigger one.
Why do stage rental prices vary so much?
Some quotes cover only the platforms, others include the crew, steps, skirting, delivery and pickup. Compare the full job, not the platform price.
